Not every business person gets to hop in a corporate jet every time they need to take a business trip. If you own a small business and need to travel, there are ways to save on everything from airfare to airport car rental. Here are a few helpful suggestions to get the most bang for your buck the next time you travel:
1. Use alternate airports
Lower-cost airlines often run flights from secondary airports. If you're doing business in Miami, fly into Fort Lauderdale and rent a car. Flying to San Francisco? Check the price on flights to Oakland.
2. Rent a small car
Don't make the mistake of renting a larger car than you need. If you don't plan on driving clients around, opt for the economy size. You can also check car rental websites for special deals running each month.
3. Call hotels directly
Although the internet is making it easier than ever to book a hotel room, calling hotels directly will often get you a better deal. Make sure you're aware of any added costs for essential business travel amenities, such as internet access.
