Wi-Fi has become an absolute necessity when it comes to business travel. But if you are on a budget, expensive hotel Wi-Fi access simply isn't an option. Before you hop in a car rental and arrive at your destination, consider these tips for securing free wireless internet access:
Do your research
Before you book a hotel for your business trip, see if you can find a location that doesn't charge for Wi-Fi. Some hotels offer free internet as a built-in perk, so doing your research before you arrive may save you stress down the line.
Joining a hotel loyalty program may entitle you to amenities unavailable to regular guests, such as free Wi-Fi. Staying at the same hotel each time you visit a particular city will also help you form a relationship with staff, who may be more inclined to give you free internet access if they know you personally.
Check the lobby
If all else fails, check to see if there is free public internet access in the lobby. Many hotels may restrict Wi-Fi in their rooms to avoid using too much bandwidth but offer it free of charge on the main floor.
