Formulating business travel plans on a budget is hard enough, but things get even more complicated when you have to leave on short notice. Use these tips for avoiding unnecessary fees and you'll be able to arrive at that conference on time and under budget:
Credit card miles can help
Don't waste all of those credit card airline miles that you've built up over the years on personal travel expenses. When you're taking a vacation, you can change your plans to fit the best airlines deals - that's not necessarily true of business travel. Those credit card miles may come in handy when you have to hop on a plane on short notice.
Call ahead for car rentals
Although renting a car on short notice generally isn't an issue, it's still a good idea to call ahead and make a reservation. That way, you can get the car rental deals you need without risking the possibility that the vehicle you want won't be available when you arrive.
Contact the hotel directly
Although websites like Hotwire and Priceline can be helpful when it comes to find great deals on hotel rooms, you're much more likely to be able to negotiate for a better price if you contact the hotel directly and speak to someone at the front desk.
