Deals and free attractions in Ontario
Not to be confused with the Canadian province, the city of Ontario is a California destination that serves as an entry point into Los Angeles - it's home to the Ontario International Airport. But you don't have to go to L.A. to have a good time during your vacation: The city has a variety of features, from its intriguing history and art museum to the central business district. And it's a much more affordable option where you can take advantage of great Ontario deals, such as Thrifty Car Rental's specials on its variety of Ontario rental cars. The city also offers these free attractions:
Maclin Open Air Market
Drive an Ontario car rental along East Riverside Drive until you reach a sprawling pop-up shopping center: the Maclin Open Air Market, which is the largest of its kind in Southern California. This town gathering place is open every Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday between 7:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. While you'll have to pay for any purchases, it's entirely free to people watch and window shop. Watch a live auction, peruse the handmade items at the craft fair and check out live entertainment at the bazaar.
Museum of History and Art
The Museum of History and Art is open Thursday through Sunday from noon to 4 p.m., and admission is always free. Another wallet-friendly bonus is that you can park your Ontario car rental at no cost. The aim of the institution is to teach the public about the art, history and culture of the area through exhibitions, lectures, community events and other educational initiatives. It has both permanent displays, such as "Gem of the Foothills" and "Road Ways," and temporary exhibits. For instance, in 2013, the museum introduced a work that celebrates the Day of the Dead.
