Have a blast in Boston
Boston is home to the oldest public park in the country: Boston Common. It also hosted the first public beach in the U.S. at Revere Beach. The country's first subway system and Dunkin Donuts were created and operated here. The city was also home to the largest art theft in the world in 1990, when thieves dressed as police officers took 12 paintings from the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. Fenway Park
If you're looking to see the infamous Boston Red Sox in action, drive your Boston rental car to 4 Yawkey Way. This stadium sits on a street named after Tom Yawkey, who owned the team for 43 years. The first game ever played here was on April 9, 1912, when the Red Sox beat Harvard University 2-0. Just 11 days later, the first official professional baseball game was played on site between the Sox and the New York Highlanders. The opponent would go on to become the New York Yankees, the Sox' biggest rival. There is seating available for 37,493 people to cheer for the Red Sox or the opposing team at Fenway Park. Before they were given the name we are familiar with, the Sox were called the Americans. Owner John l. Taylor changed it to the Red Sox before the 1908 season. He also named the park after the neighborhood in which it resides. The field hosted high school, college and recreation league sports prior to 1950. Today, big name concerts are held here every summer, like Billy Joel, Foo Fighters, James Taylor and Bonnie Raitt.
Freedom Trail Run
Do you find yourself getting bored during traditional walking tours? Strolling through a city doesn't always give you a thorough look at all the great sites. Plus, sometimes you just have more energy to burn. If so, try this running tour! Every weekend, this group meets on Boston Common at the corner of Park and Tremont streets to run 5k through the Freedom Trail. It covers some of the most notorious sites in town, like the Park Street Church, Old South Meeting House and the site of the Boston Massacre. Don't worry, you won't just run past all the cool spots. The tour is guided and stops about 16 times to check out the interesting places and people along the way. It takes about two hours to complete and is almost entirely outside, so be sure to wear weather-appropriate clothing. While this is a running tour, the frequent stops allow younger and less physically fit audiences to participate. This is a very unique way to see the famous places along the Freedom Trail.
North End
The North End neighborhood of Boston is full of wonderful places to shop, visit and, best of all, eat. Drive your Boston rental car to this area that's full of Italian immigrants and has a lot of incredible food to offer at restaurants like Antico Forno, Lucca and Al Dente. The Freedom Trail snakes through the neighborhood and is surrounded by interesting sites like the John F. Kennedy Federal Building and the Holocaust Memorial. Enjoy a walk along the harbor where you can enjoy convenient, cozy cafes while checking out the boats and other vessels docked in Boston Harbor. You can even set foot on the U.S. Ship Constitution to learn about its famous past and take a nap in a hammock. There's even live entertainment including music and plays that are attended by locals and tourists alike. If you're looking for an area to spend a few hours in without growing bored, this is the spot for you.
