Now that the kids are grown, it's time you get what you really want for Father's Day. Instead of another tie or a card made with colored macaroni, why not hint to your son or daughter that you want to go on a great travel adventure?
You and the kids can pick up a car rental in Miami and then head to the Gold Coast Railroad Museum. Examine a number of full-size locomotives of both the steam and diesel-electric varieties. Passenger cars, freight cars and plenty of other historic equipment here will bring out the inner conductor in you. For a true adult playtime, hop on board one of the train routes that run alongside the museum, or create your own routes with the museum's numerous enthralling sets.
If the weather's too perfect to stay indoors, however, you and the kids can head over to the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, located in the neighboring town of Coral Gables. From giant palm trees to vibrant flora that could only survive in Florida's heat, the garden will make your green thumb emerald by the end of your visit.
