What in the world is the Knee Defender?

Whether you're a business traveler or a frequent vacationer, there's a good chance you've heard about the Knee Defender. This tiny gadget has been stealing the travel news headlines as of late thanks to an altercation aboard a United Airlines flight in late August 2014.

During a flight from New Jersey to Denver, one passenger utilized the Knee Defender, a small device that costs about $22 and attaches to the tray table to prevent the passenger in front from reclining. The man was asked to remove the device, as it's banned on United Airlines (as it is on most), but she refused and a fight between the two passengers caused the plane to be diverted midway through.

Now, there's a public debate over whether or not these gadgets should be banned altogether. Some say yes, that it's disrespectful to the person in front. Others say no, that reclining should be banned, as it's rude to the person behind. Still some say airlines are at fault - that the shrinking size legroom in an effort to boost profits is causing altercations between flyers. As a business traveler, would you use the Knee Defender?
