Practice courteous driving while traveling for business

While driving a rental car on business travel, it can be easy to concentrate solely on the task at hand: your work. No matter what region you're traveling in, courteous driving is always in fashion, and is necessary to ensure a peaceful, chaos-free business trip.

When on the road, it is most important to concentrate on your driving. While on business travel trips, you are already in unfamiliar territory. Even though it can be tempting to spend time checking on client contacts, don't text, email or do any other forms of work while driving car rentals.

Secondly, be respectful of pedestrians and bicyclists. Other cities and states may have different rules than your home base, but pedestrian rights-of-way and bicycling hand signals are a given in most parts of the country.

Don't tailgate, speed up at yellow lights, honk excessively or fall prey to road rage. It can be tempting to retaliate against uncourteous drivers, especially on business trips when stress may be at its max. However, staying calm and collected is the safest option.

Finally, obey the speed limit. Make sure you're aware of the posted limit; states vary widely in the speed limits they consider safe. What may be the normal highway speed in your home state may be up to ten miles faster or slower than the state you're in for business travel purposes, so keep your eyes open for speed limit signs.

With courteous driving practices and a clear mind, you should have no problem arriving at that business luncheon or seminar on time.
