Business travel can be made much easier through the use of car rentals, but if your travels take you to states like Texas, Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Alabama or Mississippi, you'll want to keep your eyes open for deer while driving on highways or country roads. According to Outdoor Channel, these states are the only states in the country with deer populations of more than 1 million, making them prime territories for deer-related car accidents.

According to New York state news source the Messenger Post, November is the top month for deer-automobile collisions.

"When you study car-deer crash numbers, they clearly sustain that November is the month for the most vehicle collisions with deer," local County Sheriff Philip Povero told the source.

Wisconsin is one state with a large deer population. This makes it a haven for hunters, but a headache for car-using business travelers. recommends taking five simple steps to reduce your risk of a car-deer collision.

First, stay awake and aware. You should also be especially careful during the hours of dawn and dusk, when deer are particularly active. Make sure you also pay attention to the speed limit and deer crossing signs, and realize that deer usually travel as a group. This means that when you spot one of these beautiful animals, there will likely be more in the area. Finally, wear a seatbelt at all times. In the unfortunate event of a crash, seatbelts are your best protection against injury.
