If you’re cruising through the county seat of Alabama in your Mobile rental car, be sure to stop in at some of the city’s most exciting attractions, starting with a tour of Battleship Memorial Park.
Battleship Memorial Park
For a little adventure on the seas, take a tour of this historic military park and museum, located on the western shore of Mobile Bay. Just a short drive from the Mobile Regional Airport, here you’ll find a collection of aircraft and battleships including the South Dakota-class battleship USS Alabama and Gato-class submarine USS Drum. From your Mobile rental car, head towards the western shore of Mobile Bay to view World War II era submarines, bombers and fighter planes ranging from B-52 from the Vietnam War, a P-51 Mustang flown by the Tuskegee Airmen to an A-12 Blackbird spyplane. In addition, the park is home to war memorials to the Korean and Vietnam conflicts.
Located at 111 S Royal St., Fort Conde is a short drive from the city center in your Thrifty rental car. The fort is a reconstruction of the original 1720’s French Fort Conde at the site. Originally known as Fort Carlota (under Spanish rule) and then as Fort Charlotte (under British), the fort spans almost 1/3 of the original site. Permanent exhibits include the CSS Alabama Cannon, offering visitors an up close look at the Confederate Naval history in a 700 square foot gallery, featuring one of the original eight cannons from the Civil War commerce raiding ship. The Mary Jane Slayton Inge Gallery gives guests a look at of the History Museum's finest pieces, including Boehm porcelain, Baccarat crystal, Limoges china, souvenirs from several of Mobile's oldest mystic societies, sculptures, paintings and other decorative arts.

Voted the 2008-2009 Alabama Attraction of the Year, nominated as Best Family Attraction in Mobile for ten consecutive years and a Top 15 Science Center in the Country, this is worth a visit in your Mobile rental car. Head downtown to explore more than 150 hands-on science adventures in three permanent galleries: Hands On Hall, the Wharf of Wonder and My BodyWorks, the most advanced health exhibit in the nation. Kids will love the large-scale, interactive traveling exhibits, while parents will appreciate the year-round science content and educational programming. Don’t forget to catch a flick at the Bedsole IMAX Theater.
