Thrifty Car Rental –New York City (JFK)

Experience New York City in your rental car

New York City is busy, bright and beautiful. It's the most populated city in the U.S. With over 8.4 million residents, it more than doubles the population of the next-largest city, Los Angeles. Overflowing with culture and an endless supply of energy, there's always something to do in the Big Apple.

A view from (slightly) above
Known for its iconic skyline, NYC has a plethora of skyscrapers with viewing areas to get that high-up look at the city. For those who'd rather stay a little closer to the ground, there's The High Line. This public park and nature walkway was built on the former elevated path for the New York Central Railway. There are multiple points along the length of the park that give you access from the ground, and three parking garages where you can drop off your New York City rental car. The High Line has areas for picnics and a scenic path to walk along. Public events are also regularly held there, so it's worth checking the park's calendar to see what's going on during your visit.

Checking out the masterpieces
NYC is an excellent destination for travelers interested in visual arts. Obviously the Metropolitan Museum of Art is a great stop for art fans, but the Met is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to NYC's art scene. The Frick Collection, the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Museum of Modern Art are all popular museums that offer different pieces to view and learn about. There are also a ton of galleries throughout the city if you're interested in checking out up-and-coming artists.

Book lovers, rejoice: NYC is home to the Strand Book Store, which has 18 miles worth of store space filled with new, used and rare books. It's worth checking out just for the sake of experiencing its expansive selection, and those looking for something specific will probably be able to find it (maybe with a little help). Foodies will enjoy checking out the Chelsea Market, a one-square-block food hall containing a mind-boggling variety of food shops. Cuisines from every culture, style and flavor can be found, along with a few non-food shops as well.
