The Biltmore Estate


In 1895, George Vanderbilt, the grandson of Cornelius Vanderbilt, constructed Biltmore Estate. The 250-room manor house served as a retreat for Vanderbilt to pursue his interests in agriculture, landscape, horticulture, and animals. Biltmore Estate was inspired by Vanderbilt’s many visits to Europe during the Gilded Age and was built in the image of a working Estates. This gem is located just a twenty minute drive in your car rental out of downtown Asheville. Biltmore Estate is the largest private home in the United States was deemed a National Historic Landmark in 1964 and is now opens its doors to almost one million visitors each year. The manor house has also appeared in several major motion pictures including; Forrest Gump, Richie Rich, Patch Adams, and Hannibal.

Explore the Blue Ridge Parkway

 
For almost 500 miles deep within the Appalachian Mountains, the Blue Ridge Parkway scenic drive curves back and forth passed natural attractions, mountains, and vistas.
