Couer d’Alene Resort Golf Course

Calling all golf lovers! Load your clubs into the trunk of your Thrifty rental car and head to the Couer d’Alene Resort, located on the north shore of Lake Coeur d’Alene, to play one of the country’s best golf courses. Known for its floating green on the 14th hole, the course was designed by Scott Miller and has been recognized by Golf Digest and Golf Magazine as one of the best courses in America. It was also featured in the Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005 video game.

Enjoy the fresh air with a hike on the North Idaho Centennial Trail. Just park your Coeur d’Alene rental car and pick up the trail that follows Lake Coeur d’Alene’s north shoreline to the Spokane River. The 24-mile paved trail extends from Higgens Point on the northeast side of the lake (a great spot to see bald eagles in early winter!) all the way to the Idaho/Washington border.

Silver Mountain Resort

Just a quick, 30-minute drive from Coeur d’Alene in your Thrifty rental car, the Silver Mountain Resort offers year-round adventure. From skiing, snowboarding, lift-served snow tubing and snowshoeing in the winter, to mountain biking, hiking, golf and gondola rides in the summer. Crystal Gold Mine Tours

For an authentic look at an 1880s gold mine, hop in your Coeur d’Alene rental car and drive 40 minutes east to Kellogg, Idaho, for a Crystal Gold Mine Tour. This guided underground tour takes visitors through one of the first hard rock mines in the Silver Valley, explaining how the miners drilled, traced the quartz veins and tested the veins for gold. Colorful stalactite crystals of smithsonite coat the walls and gold and silver wire can still be seen in the quartz vein.

Fishing on the Couer d’Alene River

The Coeur d’Alene River extends up from Coeur d’Alene Lake east to Kingston, and is rich with a variety of fish. Common catches include brook, rainbow, cutthroat and west slope cutthroat trout, with other species including chinook salmon (lower reaches), kokanee salmon and bull trout. If fly fishing is your thing, hop in your Thrifty rental car and drive to the North Fork of the Coeur d’Alene where you’ll find several outfitters offering guided trips.
