Find your way around Fort Wayne with a rental car

Somewhere between Chicago, Cincinnati, and Detroit Is Fort Wayne, Indiana. Three-fourths of the state of Indiana is bountiful farmland full, but Fort Wayne is the third largest metropolitan area and busy with business and leisure travelers. In recent years, the city has revitalized itself becoming a center for entrepreneurs and high tech industries. If you’re flying into Fort Wayne International Airport, the Thrifty Car Rental counter will be easy to find. Once you have keys in hand, it’s time to hit the road and start enjoying the Hoosier State.

Pioneer Past
It won’t take long to notice this Midwestern city’s pioneer past. While equipped with all modern conveniences today, it remains apparent the locals are proud of their heritage. Each year, the Johnny Appleseed Festival pays homage to the city’s pioneer past. Voted the best festival in Fort Wayne, you’ll find period-themed demonstrations, Farmer’s Markets, craft booths and entertainment. The festival is held each September at Johnny Appleseed Park, just a few miles north of Downtown and easily accessible in your rental car.

Modern Entertainment
Downtown Fort Wayne is the business, arts, dining, and nightlife center of the city. The Allen County Courthouse is registered as a National Historic Landmark and is a fine example of the Beaux Arts architecture. Inside you’ll find stained glass windows and fixtures, murals, and elaborate patterned tile floors. Also downtown is the heart of the Fort Wayne sports scene. Sports enthusiasts will be close to both Parkview Field, home of the San Diego Padres baseball affiliate the Fort Wayne TinCaps. The Stadium was part of the downtown revitalization project and consistently breaks attendance records.

The Great Outdoors
Don’t forget to bring your hiking boots and camera when you visit Fort Wayne. Not only is the city itself covered in parks, eighty-six to be exact, but a short drive in your car rental can get you out of town into the beautiful Indiana country side. While the city may be too urban for camping and hiking, canoeing on the St. Mary’s River and bicycling has become one of the city’s favorite past times.
