Take a spin in your Savannah Rental Car
The oldest city in Georgia is also, arguably, the most charming. Savannah, Georgia, cozying up along the Atlantic coastline, is where history and entertainment collide. Exploring by horse and carriage, or rental car, Savannah is an ideal destination the southerners have known about for years.
Experience Antebellum Charm
Savannah was mostly spared during the civil war and so much of its historical architecture is still intact, as a result, the tourism industry thrives. The city has one of the largest historic districts in the country and caters to visitors looking for some authentic southern charm and history. With easy to navigate streets and ample parking downtown, having a rental car is the most efficient way to travel. The city is built around town squares, twenty-four to be exact. You won’t want to miss Chippewa Square, the setting for the film Forest Gump. Don’t bother looking for the bus stop, it was actually a prop that was removed post filming.
When most people think of Savannah, visions of Forsyth Park come to mind. When the weather is nice, the park is a perfect place to picnic, play some sports, or just do some people watching. It’s here that you’ll find tree-lined paths covered in Spanish moss and one of the most pictured landmarks of the city, The Forsyth Park Fountain. Each year since 1984, the water is dyed green during the annual Greening of the Fountain in Forsyth Park held on Saint Patrick’s Day. While the event itself is short and sweet, it’s one of the most highly anticipated event of the year.
Take a road trip to Hilton Head
Many visitors flying into Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport pick up their rental car and make the one-hour trip to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Hilton Head is a barrier island and vacation destination for most of the Southeast. The Island has nearly nine miles of public beaches along the Atlantic Ocean, numerous golf courses, and over twenty five bicycle paths traversing the city. Enjoy eateries by the water that specialize in fresh seafood and authentic southern cuisines while looking for bottle-nosed dolphins playing in the surf.
