Packing light and smart is important for business travel. Skimping too much could leave you stranded without essentials, while bringing too much burdens you with heavy bags and can make it harder to get to important meetings on time. Consider these tips for optimal packing:

Choose your personal item wisely

Airlines generally allow each traveler one carry-on bag as well as a personal item. This personal item must meet airline-specific size requirements, so check with your carrier beforehand. If possible, use it to hold the small and important stuff - try fitting your laptop, toiletries and other loose belongings into a backpack. In cases where you can fit all of your clothing into your carry-on luggage and personal item, you may be able to save money and time by avoiding checking your luggage altogether.

Roll your belongings

Common sense may say to fold your clothing, but rolling items can save you much-needed space. It also reduces wrinkles, which is a particularly big benefit for business travelers. Rolling is a technique often used by backpackers who must fit a month's worth of apparel into a tiny package.
