Attractions For a Delightful Kansas Vacation

While Kansas may bring up images of tornados, and green-skinned witches, the location is actually quite delightful whether you're here on business, or vacation. Known as the Heart of America, this state has a rich American West history and is home to a plenitude of fascinating cities and towns with their own dynamic cultures.

Wichita, which is served by the Mid-Continent Airport Wichita, contains a thriving central business district as well as exciting nightlife opportunities in the downtown area. Be sure to check out these highlights during your Sunflower State vacation:

Visit the Museums
Before you make your way back to the airport and get on your return flight home, be sure to take an afternoon to check out the cultural and historical institutions of the city. Begin your tour with the Wichita Art Museum, then head to the Mid-America All-Indian Center, which has a unique collection of Native American artifacts and art.

A must-see is Old Cowtown, an open-air museum that lets you step back into pioneer times with an elaborate Wild West recreation. Other institutions worth a visit include the Great Plains Transportation Museum and Museum of World Treasures.

Explore Old Town
Situated in the downtown area about a 10-minute drive from Mid-Continent Airport Wichita, Old Town is the city's entertainment district. As you walk through the streets, you'll find more than 100 establishments, including restaurants, bars, lounges and shops. Leave your rental car at the curb, because the grounds can be easily traveled by foot.

Enjoy a gourmet meal at Larkspur Bistro & Bar, or Pumphouse, then sit back and be entertained at Cabaret Old Town or Mosley Street Melodrama. Finish off the evening with a nightcap at Anchor, a vintage pub known for its lengthy beer list.
