Take the ferry from Seattle

According to the Seattle Comptroller's Office, the city has almost 54 miles of saltwater shoreline and nearly 148 miles of freshwater shoreline. Between the shoreline and the average 37 inches of rain yearly, Seattle is a wet place. There's plenty to do here to get out of the rain, so visit these attractions and you'll see why so many people love the Pacific Northwest:

Century Link Field
This stadium can be found between Pioneer Square and the Chinatown/International district in Seattle, Washington. The field meets regulations for the National Football League, World Cup Soccer and Major League Soccer. Drive your Seattle rental car to this stadium to cheer for the Seattle Sounders MLS team or the Seattle Seahawks NFL team. The facility has a 67,000 seat capacity and adds 5,000 seats for special events, like when Taylor Swift plays a concert here in August of 2015. From the stadium you can see the Puget Sound and the surrounding mountains. Nearby you'll find Safeco field, where the Seattle Mariners Major League Baseball team plays. Seahawks fans have been called the loudest fans in the entire NFL. If you visit to see a game you will hear why. The noise of the crowd at this facility has been recorded at 137.6 decibels, seven points louder than a Boeing 747 and more than twice as loud as a Washington ferry horn. You might want to bring hearing protection for younger children. They're sure to get a kick out of joining in with this crowd!

Washington State Ferry
As is depicted on Seattle-based show "Grey's Anatomy," ferry boats play a huge part in the Pacific Northwest. Washington State Ferries operates a fleet with 21 ships that use 9 routes to go to 20 destinations. They move people, vehicles and goods through the Puget Sound and off to local islands and even British Columbia, Canada. For a shorter journey, take the ferry to Lopez Island where you can ride bicycles, shop and dine. Families will enjoy a trip to San Juan Island. This port of call is about two hours away from the original docking point in Anacortes. On the island you can visit San Juan National Historic Park. The park has gorgeous ocean views and is one of few native prairies left in the Puget Sound/Northern Straits region. If your family is interested in ships, take the Seattle-Bremerton ferry to see Naval Base Kitsap, the fourth largest naval shipyard in the world. Stop by the harbor, where you'll find restaurants, fountains, museums, an art district and hotels in case you have so much fun you want to stay the night.

Seattle Children's Theatre
This exciting Seattle attraction was started in the Poncho Theatre at Woodland Park Zoo. The Seattle Department of Parks and Recreation started it hoping to bring professional quality theater to the kids of the area. More than four million children have seen shows in the over 235 plays that have been performed here as of the end of the 2013-2014 season. Drive your Seattle rental car to the theater to see a family-friendly production. Past performances have included "Pippi Longstocking," "James and the Giant Peach," "Pinocchio" and more. Linda Hartzell, the Seattle Children's Theatre Artistic Director, has won many awards, including a Lifetime Achievement Award from Seattle Metropolitan Magazine, for her work with the theater's incredible shows. She has been with the theater since 1984 and has directed more than 45 plays, including "The Grapes of Wrath" and "The Red Badge of Courage." Many productions here are world premiers so check the schedule to see what exciting performance is going on when you want to visit.
