Delaware Car Rental

Trip ideas for your Delaware vacation

Delaware may be one of the smallest states in the U.S., but it is jam-packed with attractions for travelers, from distinctive historical sites to sports venues. This state was one of the cradles of the American Revolution, has a unique mix of New England and Atlantic Coast influence and is filled with several small cities that have a lot to offer visitors. Take your Thrifty car rental to some of these excellent cities and sites during your Delaware vacation:

This charming small town is home to the sprawling Silver Lake Park, which features:

  • 100 acres of walking trails
  • A massive catch-and-release fishing lake and
  • Open fields for picnics

If you are here for business or pleasure, it's likely that you are going to want to spend some time in this beautiful green space.

Wilmington is considered the most arts-centric destination in the state, as it is home to the Delaware Art Museum, a massive exhibition space that features everything from a sculpture garden to a massive collection of American artwork. If you are bringing the kids, make a stop at the Brandywine Zoo, which is home to several species ranging from toucans to leopards.

For a one-of-a-kind experience, don't miss the Clinton Presidential Center, which highlights major accomplishments and archives from the 42th president, Bill Clinton. The center also features an:

  • On-site restaurant
  • Educational space
  • Cultural space

The center also features permanent and temporary exhibits highlighting the campaigns, policy alcoves, life at the White House (including a full-size replica of the Oval Office) and Clinton's two terms as president.

Delaware's second-biggest city is home to the "Monster Mile," also known as the Dover International Speedway. This venue hosts a number of NASCAR-related events, including the crowd favorite Sprint Cup Series. The oval track is one of the most unique in the sport, lending to some dramatic corners and narrow straightaways.

Dover is also home to the John Dickinson Plantation, a beautiful home and farm near Dover Air Force Base. Historic tours are given by guides dressed in authentic 18th century clothing, and visitors can learn more about Dickinson, who was called the "Penman of the Revolution."
