For some fresh air, visit the Roger Williams National Memorial in your Thrifty rental car. This four and a half-acre park is located near the east side of the Moshassuck River and is situated at the base of College Hill. Part of the National Historic Landmark District, the park is also the city's oldest and most historically significant area. The memorial features an open grassy area ringed by trees on the southern portion, while the northern portion is more landscaped.

There is a visitor center housed in the Antram-Gray House at the northeast corner and a parking area on the west side. Several of the memorial’s most interesting areas include the Bernon Grove in the northern section and the site of the spring, which prompted Roger Williams to select the site. At the park’s visitor center, you can learn about Roger Williams, the founding of Rhode Island and more historic sites in Providence.
