Catch Peter Pan in Your St John’s Rental Car

The city of St. John’s is the capital and largest city of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. From parks to pubs, if you are cruising through the city, stop by our St John’s car rental location before you head out to see the sights.

Bowring Park

Catch a glimpse of Peter Pan in one of the most scenic parks in the city of St. John’s. Bowering Park is located in the Waterford Valley via the Waterford Bridge. Drive your Thrifty rental car here to enjoy the park’s many recreational facilities, including tennis courts, a swimming pool and a playground. Along with the famous Peter Pan, there are many other sculptures including a Caribou and The Fighting by Newfoundlander Basil Gotta.

Pippy Park

Take a break from the city and drive over to Pippy Park in your St John’s rental car. The Park features 3,400 acres set in an urban landscape. The most popular activities here are camping and hiking. Pippy Park is home to numerous groomed and wilderness-style hiking/skiing trails, a miniature golf course, a nine-hole and an 18-hole golf course, a driving range and a public access trailer park with limited tent camping facilities. While you’re visiting Pippy Park, be sure to stop by the Memorial University of Newfoundland, the Botanical Garden at Oxen Pond and the Fluvarium. The Fluvarium is worth a few hours of your time, offering an underwater view of a natural river.

George Street

This street offers some of the best pubs and restaurants in St. John’s. Set your Thrifty rental car’s GPS to George Street, and then take a stroll down two blocks of nothing but watering holes and great eateries. Open only to pedestrians in the evenings, George Street holds the record for the most bars and pubs per square foot of any street in North America. The area is also known for late-night bars that are open later than most others throughout Canada. Somehow, the street doesn’t become crowded until around midnight, so no need to worry about heavy traffic. Usually, activity in the area is busiest around midnight, and remains busy until early in the morning, with many locals recharging their stomachs with a hot dog or two from several local vendors and 24-hour restaurants. The street often remains busy until the early morning, sometimes up until 6 a.m. George Street also hosts an annual, six-day Mardi Gras celebration in October that's said to host over 120,000 people — making it the largest of its kind in North America.
