Enjoy a Lake Day in Your San Angelo Airport Rental Car

The city of San Angelo is located in the Concho Valley of West Texas. It is home to Angelo State University, historic Fort Concho and Goodfellow Air Force Base. If you’re flying into the San Angelo Regional Airport, you might want to pick up a Thrifty rental car, then head over to the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts, Lake Nasworthy or O.C. Fisher Reservoir.

San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts

A short distance from the airport in your Thrifty rental car is a fine art museum with collections from 14 countries. This museum features a growing permanent collection and houses many traveling exhibitions. The museum also features a research library, an education wing and a rooftop sculpture collection. Just along the banks of the Concho River, you'll find the museum directly across from downtown San Angelo. After viewing the exhibits, you can take a stroll along a winding pedestrian across a bridge that runs over to the other side of the river, where you'll find parks and paths.

Lake Nasworthy

For a day on the lake, drive your San Angelo rental car to Lake Nasworthy. This small municipal lake is named after John R. Nasworthy, who sold the land to the city. The lake was built in 1930 in order to provide water to the city and surrounding areas. It is stocked with species of fish intended to improve the utility of the reservoir for recreational fishing. Types of fish here include largemouth bass, white bass, smallmouth bass, white crappie, hybrid striped bass and catfish.

O.C. Fisher Reservoir

Another nearby lake is O.C. Fisher Reservoir, an artificial lake located west of San Angelo. It’s a great place to enjoy fishing, boating and swimming if you’re looking for something to do in your Thrifty rental car. Formerly known as San Angelo Lake, this reservoir was constructed by the Upper Colorado River Authority. A dam was built by the United States Army Corps of Engineers in 1947 and the lake was officially impounded in 1952. Later, the lake was named after local U.S. Congressman O.C. Fisher, to honor his 23 years of service in the United States Congress.
