Fun things to do in New Jersey
Whether you are headed to the Jersey Shore or want to fit in some serious retail therapy, New Jersey is a great place to spend your next business trip or vacation. There are several cities in the Garden State that offer a plethora of fun things to do - from water parks to some of the best food and dining in the region.
This is an excellent township for the little ones, as East Brunswick boasts Playhouse 22, a fantastic venue that features kid-themed shows as well as Broadway productions. If you need to move your business trip out onto the fairways, the township delivers with Tamarack Golf Club, a beautiful 18-hole golf course owned by Middlesex County. However, one of the most popular spots in town is the Crystal Springs Aquatic Facility, which is home to an Olympic-size pool, a water slide and several wading areas.
The township's namesake just happens to be the most exciting attraction, as Edison is named after the inventor and all-around genius Thomas Edison. It's here where you'll find the Menlo Park Museum, the former experimental facility where Edison let his creative juices flow, boasting patents for around 400 inventions, including the famous phonograph and light bulb. Today, you can tour the small museum in Edison that pays homage his lifelong work.
If you are traveling through New Jersey in your Thrifty rental car during the winter, head over the the Fanwood Ice Skating Rink, which is located in beautiful LaGrande Park. Although admission is free, each skater is encouraged to donate a small wooden log for the community wood-burning stove. This could be just the activity to warm up the whole family on a cold winter's day.
If you are a fan of the great outdoors, then Union is just the New Jersey destination for you. The township is home to South Mountain Reservation, a green space that sprawls for more than 2,000 acres in central Essex County. Here you can enjoy a wealth of outdoor activities, including an archery range, fishing, 27 miles of paths for jogging, horseback riding and cross-country skiing, 10 picnic areas, two indoor ice skating rinks and the wondrous Hemlock Falls. If you are bringing the kids, be sure to stop by the Turtle Back Zoo, which is located in the reservation and features everything from black bears to alligators.
For fine dining at its best, Westfield definitely delivers. You can enjoy delicious Scandinavian food at Gradde Swedish Restaurant, pick up some locally roasted coffee beans at Ahrre's Coffee Roastery, twirl on scrumptious homemade pasta with lobster filling at San Marzano Pasta Bar or feast on sweet treats at Carlo's Bakery.
