Visit Old Town in Your Gander Rental Car

The town of Gander is located in the Northeastern part of Newfoundland in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. If you’ll be cruising through the city, pick up a Thrifty rental car before you head out to see the sights. Our Gander car rental location is conveniently located between many attractions, offering a variety of options for you to choose from.

The Old Town Site
Get a taste of how old town Gander used to be. Take a drive over to the Old Town Site in your Gander rental car and meander through the streets of old town. Near the Gander International Airport, here you can look back on the remnants of old building foundations, benches and interpretive panels.

Cobbs Pond Rotary Park
For a stop on the quiet side of Gander, drive your Gander rental car over to Cobb’s Pond Rotary Park. Recently re-opened after renovations, this small park is located on the northern edge of the city, and features a variety of park amenities including a picnic area, washrooms, wharf, playground and a three-kilometer boardwalk trail. If you'll be visiting in late summer, the annual Festival of Light is held here during the first Monday of August.

Newfoundland Trailway
For a little exercise, head over to the Newfoundland Trailway in your Thrifty rental car. Developed with paved attractions for walking, biking, snowmobiling and cross-country skiing, this repurposed section of the old Canadian National Railway includes new renovations between Cobb’s Pond Rotary Park and the Old Town Site.

Thomas Howe Demonstration Forest
For some wild Canadian adventure, drive your Gander rental car to Thomas Howe Demonstration Forest. Located two kilometers east of the city on the TCH, this interpretive demonstration forest features amenities such as three walking trails with interpretive panels, a picnic area, washrooms and snowshoe trails.

The Airport Nordic Ski Club
Remember to pack gear for the slopes because this Ski Club is a must-stop. Located 3 km west of Gander on the Trans-Canada Highway, this ski resort features five and a half kilometers of dedicated snowshoe trails and 16 kilometers of trails groomed for both diagonal strides and skating.
