Segways and puppets in Atlanta

In May 1886, Dr. John S. Pemberton invented Coca Cola in the state of Georgia. If you take a look at a Coke can today, you'll see the swirly script of the inventor's handwriting on the logo. The product's name came from Frank Robinson, Pemberton's bookkeeper, who suggested he call the new bubbly drink, "Coca-Cola." Grab a cold one and head to this state, named after King George the II of England, for some football and fun.

Georgia Dome

This Georgia stadium has hosted its fair share of top-level sporting events. Two Super Bowls, the 1996 Olympic Games, and NCAA men's and women's final four games have all been hosted here. The stadium usually hosts the NFL's Atlanta Falcons and Georgia State University Panthers as well as the yearly Georgia High School Football State Championships, the SEC Football Championship, Chick-fil-A-Bowl, Chick-fil-A Kickoff Games and the Bank of America Atlanta Football Championship. That's a whole lot of top-notch athletics at the largest cable-supported dome in the world. When you drive your Atlanta rental car to this field, you'll see why a pair of C-5 military transport planes could fit on the floor of this 102,000-square-foot space. As you're taking a sip from a soft drink or beer, remember there are 32,952 feet of lines feeding the liquid dispensers for all the beverages served in the stadium.

Atl-Cruzers Electric Car and Segway Tours

Want to explore the city but don't have the time or energy to travel by foot? Try a 1.5-hour electric car tour or 2.5-hour Segway tour with this innovative company. The tours take visitors through historical neighborhoods to see the beautiful architecture and hidden gems of Atlanta. Guides recommend great places to eat and stay while taking visitors through Centennial Olympic Park, past the Georgia Aquarium, the Martin Luther King Jr. Historic Site and more. Electric car tours leave at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. every day, and Segway tours start at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Dress for the weather as the electric cars have open sides and the Segways are completely open to the elements. Sunscreen and water are also recommended. What a fun way to get to know Atlanta!

Center for Puppetry Arts

Visit this largest American non-profit that is entirely dedicated to puppetry! This is a great stop for families with kids and people interested in theater! Not only can you watch stringed creatures come alive here, there is a hands-on museum for educational fun and even a Jim Henson Showcase featuring none other than Kermit the Frog. Kermit was here for the grand opening ceremony in 1978 when he cut the ribbon, officially opening the center. The puppet shows are always changing but have recently included "The Stinky Cheese Man," "The Wizard of Oz" and seasonal favorites like "The Headless Horseman of Sleepy Silly Hollow" and "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer." Check the schedule to see what shows you might want to drive your Atlanta rental car to stop by to see!
