Desert Canyon Golf Course

The front nine offers large trees and elevated greens, while the back nine has four holes built around a large canyon with water in play on five holes. Most of the original buildings were destroyed in a 1941 fire, but several structures were preserved and have been recorded on the National Historic Register. Atlanta is home to the oldest established post office in Elmore County, founded in 1867, and despite its ghost-town resemblance and mountainous isolation, the town is still very much alive with 40 year-round residents.
Bruneau Dunes State Park
To view the tallest single-structured sand dune in North America, drive your Mountain Home rental car to Bruneau Dunes State Park. The impressive dune rises 470 feet high above small lakes in the high desert south of Mountain Home. With a varied terrain of desert, dune, prairie, lake and marsh, the park offers opportunities to observe nocturnal species and partake in activities like fishing, bird watching, hiking, swimming and camping. You can also marvel at the night sky at Idaho’s largest public observatory.
