Save money on your Midland vacation
The city of Midland is a quaint locale that has long been known as one of the top 150 U.S. cities in the country to live. Its popularity is no surprise, considering its small population of about 100,000, pleasantly warm climate, welcoming community and close proximity to Odessa. These factors are why the Texas destination makes for one of the country's most enjoyable getaways. There are plenty of affordable accommodations and amenities, such as Thrifty Car Rental's excellent Midland deals on a wide selection of Midland rental cars. And the city offers plenty of free attractions to keep you entertained, such as these:
Midland County Historical Museum
Park your Midland car rental for free downtown along Missouri Avenue and take a walk up to the Midland County Historical Museum. Admission is always free, but the institution is only open to the public on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. The museum contains a wide variety of artifacts that detail the rich history of the county, dating all the way back to the Prehistoric Era and up to the 1900s. You'll learn about the ranching culture of the area by perusing saddles and hats owned and donated by real cowboys, and check out the original wooden door of an early 20th century Pliska blacksmith - you'll notice marks on it where branding tools were tested.
Brown-Dorsey Medallion Home
For an exploration of the oldest house in the city, drive your Midland car rental down Weatherford Street until you reach the Brown-Dorsey Medallion Home. It was erected at the end of the 19th century and, though restored, has retained many of its original features throughout the years. You can expect to come across stunning glass windows that form a beautiful Gothic-style arch, furniture from the 1800s and other Victorian Era pieces. Admission is free, though tours require an appointment and may cost a fee.
