Discover Michigan pride in Detroit

Detroit is well-known across the country for its automobile manufacturing industry and as the home to Motown sound. But there's so much more to this diverse and expansive city. A drive through the downtown and outlying neighborhoods in your Detroit car rental will expose you to historic landmarks, world-class museums, performance theaters and an eclectic array of cuisine to please any palate. During your visit, make a stop by one of these beloved attractions:

Spartan Stadium

Located in East Lansing, Spartan Stadium is about an hour's drive in your Detroit car rental from the city center. Opened in 1923, this stadium is celebrating more than nine decades (that's over 500 games) of Michigan State football. With a win rate of 70 percent, there's no surprise that the Spartans' fan base is huge and staunchly dedicated - the stadium, which can hold more than 75,000 excited fans, often sells out. The facility has undergone great renovations in the past few years, including an expansion that involved the addition of 50,000 square feet, a beautiful entry plaza, renovated gates and extra bathrooms to reduce your time waiting in line.

Detroit Institute of Art

Navigate your Detroit car rental to 5200 Woodward Avenue, where the Detroit Institute of Art offers an exceptional cultural experience. The museum is considered one of the top in the country thanks to its more than 100 galleries and a collection that reaches back to the ancient world. Walk through to find exhibits dedicated to German Expressionism, Flemish paintings, French Impressionism, American Modernism and more. You'll find famous pieces by Cézanne, Degas and Diego Rivera, not to mention artifacts from ancient Egypt, Oceania and Africa. Before you leave, make sure to take a moment to soak in the immense beauty of the museum's architecture, which is a massive and graceful display of the Beaux-Arts style made famous in 18th-century France.

Detroit Historical Museum

No visit to Detroit would be complete without an exploration of the city's namesake historical institution. This facility is situated just down the street from the art museum at 5401 Woodward Avenue. Opened in 1928, it has undergone continuous expansion and renovation throughout the years. Starting with some 15,000 items, it today houses more than 200,000. Check out some of the top exhibits, including the "Gallery of Innovation," "Detroit: The Arsenal of Democracy," "Streets of Old Detroit" and "America's Motor City." Step outside to find the Detroit Legends Plaza, a beautiful outdoor space that honors some of Detroit's most beloved citizens, like actress Lily Tomlin and professional hockey player Gordie Howe, who've left their mark in the form of signatures and hand prints in cement. More Detroit stars add their names to the plaza every year as part of this ongoing project.

Visitors should keep in mind that parking is located in the lot adjacent to the museum Woodward and Cass avenues, and parking your Detroit rental car for the day will cost $6.
