Take a trip to Texas

The Lone Star State of Texas is not all barbecue, cowboys and football. You might be surprised to learn that soccer is a popular sport here, and while there is some desert across this vast area, there is only one naturally formed lake in the entire state. Take your family to Dallas to see some seriously talented players kicking the old black and white ball around at Toyota Stadium. Make your children's science books come alive at these Dallas attractions. You'll want to bring sunscreen, as the Texas sun can get pretty toasty.

Toyota Stadium

Drive your Dallas rental car to 9200 World Cup Way to see the FC Dallas soccer team play a home game. This stadium was built in 2005 as a multipurpose sports and entertainment facility. It includes a 20,500-foot pro soccer stadium and 17 fields that are regulation sized for tournaments. Tailgating before games is encouraged so fans can mingle and talk about their favorite players and moves of the Major League Soccer world. The adjacent Toyota Soccer Center features the Walk of Fame, honoring soccer history and the events that have brought the sport to Texas. It also houses the Victory Center, where fans can cool off under the mist zone and enjoy some shade on the patio, or head to the concession stand to grab some beverages and snacks.

Perot Museum of Nature and Science

This downtown Dallas museum is full of history and science that is both interesting and entertaining. Here you can bone up about biology and cell structure in the Discovering Life and Being Human halls. Interested in meteorology and weather phenomena? Visit the Rees-Jones Foundation Dynamic Earth Hall. Amateur archeologists and paleontologists love the T. Boone Pickens Life Then and Now hall. Families who love star gazing should be sure to visit the Expanding Universe Hall to learn about astrology and space. This is a great place to spend a rainy day or get out of the dry Texas heat. Every member of your household will find something they want to know about at the permanent and temporary exhibits here.

Dallas World Aquarium

Drive your Dallas rental car to 1801 North Griffin Street to show your little ones a taste of the sea. This aquarium features thousands of colorful marine animals, from white, black and yellow Moorish idol fish to pink and orange colt coral. Here you'll find plenty of beautiful patterns like stripes and polka dots, all that occur in nature. Check out the seadragons: these interesting and otherworldly creatures look like sea horses but they have wings and appendages that look like leaves, coral and seaweed. They almost look like cartoon characters! Tour the facility as a family on your own or take a guided tour to hear about the many creatures that live here and their underwater habitats. There are even feedings of the otters, penguins, crocodiles and sharks that you can watch during the schedule that is carefully laid out for each animal.
