Houston: An aviation sensation

Houston is bigger than the state of Maryland. It can even hold Boston, San Francisco and New York inside the city limits. This city is so big it's even (sort of) made its way out of this world; when Apollo 11's moon lander made contact with the Moon's surface, Neil Armstrong radioed back to this city, saying "Houston, Tranquility base here. The Eagle has landed." Make your way to this Texas city to see what fun adventures it has to offer:

Minute Maid Park
Drive your Houston rental car to 501 Crawford Street to catch an Astros Major League Baseball game. The team first played at this stadium in a game versus the New York Yankees on March 30, 2000. Houston won, setting the tone for the many seasons to come at the new stadium. The facility is named after the Minute Maid Company, which is headquartered in Houston. The business bought the stadium naming rights in 2002 and will own them until 2030. When you visit, check out the train, a replica of a 19th century coal locomotive that follows a track around the stadium rim. It is a link between the park's previous home, Union Station, and the newer ballpark. The stadium has won several awards for engineering excellence, including the Greater Houston Preservation Alliance 2000 Good Brick Award for completely renovating the old building into the top-notch ballpark it is today. If you bring your kids to the game, visit the Minute Maid Squeeze Play area near the right field line where they can enjoy a fun interactive play place. This facility can hold up to 40,963 people on its four levels. Grab your baseball glove and find a seat to enjoy an Astros game in beautiful Houston.

1940 Air Terminal Museum
Visit this museum attached to the William P. Hobby Airport to learn about the history of civil aviation. Here, you can see examples of flight attendant outfits, check out old planes and even watch one of the daily air shows. Admission is just $5 for adults and $2 for children. The upper terminal of the building is being redone to allow visitors to check out the flight deck and observation area but no completion date has been set. Come during the week to check out the 1928 Carter Airmail Hanger to see where the planes for this airport used to be stored. If you've ever wanted to sit and watch air traffic from an awesome vantage point, you'll love this museum. From the parking lot or the terminal, you can watch traffic at the Hobby airport come and go.

Space Center Houston
Drive your Houston rental car to this fun museum all about spaceflight technologies and activities. It's one of the city's most well-loved and attended attractions and is visited by over 800,000 people from all over the globe each year, including 100,000 teachers and students on school field trips. There are over 250 artifacts from space included in the traveling and permanent exhibits, including the world's largest collection of lunar samples and moon rocks that is available for public viewing. It's also where NASA's Mission Control is located. Astronauts underwent part of their training here. If you visit on a Friday, you can even meet an astronaut! Each Friday an astronaut does a 30-minute presentation starting at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. They even hold a question-and-answer segment to talk about all your pressing space questions. There are also interesting multimedia lectures on space-related topics like robotics and special events hosted on a monthly basis. You'll be amazed at how far out the information at this museum is!
