Detroit is the only place in America where you can look South to see Canada. The city is famous for the part it played in automobile manufacturing, hence the nickname, "Motor City." Supposedly, people here eat nearly twice as many potato chips (7 pounds worth) per year than residents elsewhere in the nation. There's more to this city than junk food and cars. Visit these attractions to learn about Detroit history and catch a Lions football game:

Ford Field

Drive your Detroit rental car to 2000 Brush Street to see the Detroit Lions National Football League team. Not only do the ferocious Lions players use this facility for their intense games, famous musicians like AC/DC and Luke Bryan have given concerts here. Motorcross events like Supercross and even massive Monster Jam rallies are also held here. A total of 65,000 fans can enjoy events at this facility, seated in the upper and lower bowls and 132 suites. At the end of the seven-story atrium at the southeast corner of the stadium, you will find a glass wall that allows for stunning views of Detroit's skyline. This field is said to have the best sight lines out of all the football stadiums in the country, because the lower level is closer to the ground than any other sporting location. Stop by The Breadstick restaurant to grab the beer of the month and a delicious deli-style sandwich. Concession stands are available throughout the stadium so hungry fans can feed their appetites without walking very far from their seats. Don your blue and white jersey and head to this Detroit field to enjoy football, a concert and maybe even some racing.

Want to take at tour of the city given by a well-versed local? Hop on the "People Mover" and take a two-hour tour through the past, present and future of Detroit. During your trip, you'll discover vacant buildings, well-known landmarks and even enjoy a beer, tea, coffee or soda at Detroit Beer Company when you're done. Children under age 6 are not allowed on this tour, and it is recommended that you dress for the weather as there is some walking involved. Wear comfortable shoes and consider bringing a camera to capture fond memories as you learn about Motor City.

Motown Historical Museum

Drive your Detroit rental car to 2648 West Grand Boulevard to see why the city had a major part in the creation of Motown music. Here you can visit Studio A, where the Supremes recorded "Stop in the Name of Love." Inside this historical room, you'll see instruments played by the likes of Smokey Robinson and Eddie Holland. Above the Hitsville U.S.A. studio is where the founder, Berry Gordy, and his family lived. Today you can see copies of Billboard magazine strewn about the kitchen table as if the family just walked out. Often, the table would hold the records that were newly recorded and being shipped to stores and customers across the country. Music lovers and history-buffs alike will love this unique look into the beginning of Motown music.
